On Friday the CDC encouraged Americans to wear face masks when in public to help slow the spread of coronavirus. The US joins China, South Kora, Austria, the Czech Republic, among others with the recommendation. Researchers studying the highly contagious virus have learned that distinguishing healthy from asymptomatic or pre-symptomatic infected individuals without testing is nearly impossible. If everyone wears masks, it may protect those who unknowingly come in contact.
Learn how to make your own face mask and slow the spread. The CDC recommends face coverings should be made of multiple layers of cloth fabric and more here. Other advice includes:
- Stay home.
- Wash your hands regularly and properly.
- Avoid touching your face.
- Appropriately cover coughs and dispose of tissues immediately.
- If you must go into public stay 6-feet apart and wear face coverings.
